"Call of the Siren" for GLITCH Magazine

Why is our society so afraid of feminine beauty? Exploring the concept of the mythological creature „the siren“ in our beauty editorial, made us realize the deeply rooted fear that mankind always has had of a woman’s attractiveness. The fear of a powerful woman using her beauty to manipulate and seduce men into doing what she wants and thus bringing trouble to them. The figure of the siren did not even start out as what we understand under the term today. Once being a bird like fable creature without any description of their physical appearance turned into half fish women whose whole existence is defined by bringing danger to men. How dare a women use her appearance to get something out of it for herself? But isn’t it ironic? Because at the same time our value is measured by exactly that attractiveness. Our looks were always the most important attribute when it comes to being respected and treated kindly in our daily life.

 „Call of the siren“ tries to depict the feeling women get when thinking about the concept of a siren. The divine power of feeling beautiful in our skin and embracing our feared femininity without any limits.
